The Rethinking Capital Foundation is building on the momentum and interest generated by an earlier community of practice established over many years.
We take a normative, holistic, integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to rethink how capitalism works. An approach that preserves the best of modern capitalism while providing solutions fit for today, unlocking value and realigning decision making and incentives to help achieve sustainable outcomes.
This ‘normative’ approach recognises that society is constantly changing and seeks to reflect the world as it is. Fundamental changes are also taking place in how the economy works and how value is created. These are having transformative effects. Social, political, governance and financial systems need to evolve to remain ‘fit for purpose’ to serve society’s needs.
It has never been more important to find new solutions to the challenges the world is facing. We are under threat in all parts of our global system – the economy, natural environment, and society. It is no surprise that policy and practice is not working – it is still shaped by the mindset of the industrial era. Factory-based system of production has been overtaken by a digital revolution, networked knowledge and artificial intelligence. These new intangible engines-of-growth are global, instantaneous and vastly different. Our social, political, governance and financial systems have become stuck in the past and need to be renewed.
